In this article, we’ll go over what cookies are and how Qualified uses them to give you the most information possible about your website visitors. If you'd like to learn more about the three cookies that are set by the Qualified Messenger or about the cookies we use on Qualified.com, review our article Cookies Used by Qualified.
What are Cookies?
Starting from the very beginning, it’s good to have a complete understanding of what cookies are and how they are used. In fact, most cookies are incredibly simple and just one of many pieces of information stored on your machine.
In its basic form, a web server sends you a cookie when a website is accessed via your browser and your web browser stores it. The browser then returns the cookie to the same web server whenever the page is referenced again. Using this cookie, the website can then remember you from a previous visit and keep certain information stored about you and your actions on the site.
For example, let’s say you buy something from a big online store and you give your shipping information for your purchase to be delivered to you. The next time you return to the site, you might see a greeting that is personalized with your name, now that the website remembers your personal information from your last visit. In most cases, this is possible because that site is using cookies to remember you.
Our sites may use both session cookies (which expire once you close your web browser) and persistent cookies (which stay on your computer or mobile device until you delete them).
We use two broad categories of cookies: (1) first-party cookies, served directly by us to your computer or mobile device, which we use to recognize your computer or mobile device when it revisits our services; and (2) third party cookies, which are served by service providers or business partners on our services, and can be used by these parties to recognize your computer or mobile device when it visits other websites. Third-party cookies can be used for a variety of purposes, including site analytics, advertising, and social media features.
In March of 2021, Google announced they will begin to no longer support third party cookies in their chrome browser. As of July 2021, they have updated their timeline for deprecation. The cookies that the Qualified JS snippet relies on are first-party, so we are unaffected.
What type of cookies do we use and what are they used for?
We use the following types of cookies in our websites and/or Messenger:
We use essential cookies to make our websites work. These cookies are strictly necessary to enable core functionality such as security, network management, your cookie preferences and accessibility. Without them you wouldn't be able to use basic services. You may disable these by changing your browser settings, but this may affect how the websites function.
Performance and Functionality Cookies
These cookies are used to enhance the performance and functionality of our websites but are non-essential to their use. However, without these cookies, certain functionality like videos may become unavailable or you would be required to enter your login details every time you visit the websites as we would not be able to remember that you had logged in previously.
These account-based marketing cookies enable us to identify future prospects and personalize sales and marketing interactions with them.
These cookies collect information that is used to help us understand how our websites are being used or how effective our marketing campaigns are.
These cookies collect information over time about your online activity on the websites and other online services to make online advertisements more relevant to you. This is known as interest-based advertising. They also perform functions like preventing the same ad from continuously reappearing and ensuring that ads are properly displayed for advertisers.
Reading Third-Party Cookies
Every time someone lands on your website Qualified will read the cookies available and attached to that visitor. Most commonly we’ll look for Pardot, Marketo, HubSpot, or other marketing automation cookies that have already been associated with this visitor. We’ll then take that information and surface that within Qualified.
Qualified has the ability to respect any pre-existing cookie opt-ins on our customers' websites. Please contact support for the ability to do this. You can also add Qualified to your content security policy provider.
Cookies help improve browsing experiences, but they are not always required to navigate the web or a website using Qualified.
Most browsers let you remove or reject cookies. To do this, follow the instructions in your browser settings. Many browsers accept cookies by default until you change your settings. Please note that if you set your browser to disable cookies, the services may not work properly.
If you do not accept our cookies, you may experience some inconvenience in your use of, or may be unable to use, our sites. For example, we may not be able to recognize your computer or mobile device and you may need to log in every time you visit our services.
Customers may opt out of receiving targeted advertising on websites through members of the Network Advertising Initiative by clicking here or the Digital Advertising Alliance by clicking here. European Customers may opt out of receiving targeted advertising on websites through members of the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance by clicking here, selecting the user’s country, and then clicking “Choices” (or similarly-titled link) Please note that we also may work with companies that offer their own opt-out mechanisms and may not participate in the opt-out mechanisms that we linked above.
If you choose to opt out of targeted advertisements, you will still see advertisements online but they may not be relevant to you. Even if you do choose to opt out, not all companies that serve online behavioral advertising are included in this list, and so you may still receive some cookies and tailored advertisements from companies that are not listed.
Information about the cookies we use may be updated from time to time, so please check back on a regular basis for any changes.
